JOHNS, N.L. -- Goals on home ice havent come easy for Carl Klingberg. But that changed on Friday when the 22-year-old scored twice to lead the St. Johns IceCaps over the visiting Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins 5-0 in American Hockey League play. "It was nice to finally get that (goal) over with," said Klingberg, whose scoring drought at home dated back to Apr. 10 of last season. "Its always nice to score. Its a good game when you score two goals." Klingberg, a native of Sweden, had a slow start to the season. But he now has six goals and 10 points in 20 contests and has seen an increase in playing time, especially on the power play. "At the start of the season, maybe I didnt get that time out there, but Ive worked hard all season," he said. "My power-play (performance) was really good on the road...Im out there a lot more now and when Im out there more, I get more chances to score." IceCaps head coach Keith McCambridge has been pleased with Klingbergs all round effort as of late and has had no trouble giving the prospect extra minutes. "When Carl plays that way, he earns his minutes," he said. "Ive always been a coach that believes in minutes being earned. He was really good our last (two) games. When he skates, he gets in on the forecheck, creates room and iss effective in puck-possession.dddddddddddd You saw that tonight. When hes able to do that, hes a top-six forward." Zach Redmond, Jerome Samson and Andrew Gordon also scored for the IceCaps (12-9-3) and Eddie Pasquale stopped 20 shots to earn the shutout. Klingberg opened the scoring for the IceCaps at the 15:09 mark of the first period with a backhand from the face-off circle that beat Penguins (13-6-1) goaltender Eric Hartzell blocker side. Klingberg scored again midway through the second period, finishing a pass from JC Lipon, who was behind the net, to make it 2-0 St. Johns. Redmond made it 3-0 before the second period was through when he scored on the power play. Samson and Gordon scored 1:05 apart in the third period to complete St. Johns offence. "I thought we played with some really good structure for the three periods," said McCambridge. "We were committed to blocking shots, and in regards to puck support, we had some speed to our game. We got ourselves out of trouble with some penalty killing and our power play was pretty good after we ironed out a couple areas where we need to be entering the zone." Hartzell made 24 saves for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The IceCaps went 2 for 5 on the power play while the Penguins failed to score on five chances with the man advantage. ' ' '
