RIDGEDALE, Mo. -- Kenny Perry and Russ Cochran teamed to birdie the final three holes for a share of the lead with Jeff Sluman and Fred Funk on Friday in the Champions Tours Legends of Golf. The leaders were at 10-under 61 after their better-ball rounds on the Buffalo Ridge course. "For the most part we hung in there, got the ball in the fairway and had a couple chances most of the time," Cochran said. "Kenny had the eye and when a guys got that, you want to get out of his way." In Savannah, Georgia, last year, Sluman teamed with Brad Faxon to win the Champions Division. Sluman turned to Funk after Faxon was unable to play because of previous commitment. "Were just really comfortable together, No. 1, but we got off to a really good start and that helped," Funk said. "We made some really good putts." Other players opened at Top of the Rock, the first par-3 course used in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. The teams of Tom Watson-Andy North, Nick Faldo Eduardo Romero and Craig Stadler-Kirk Triplett had the best rounds there, finishing at 5-under 49 after nine holes of alternate shot and nine of better ball. In the Legends Division for players 65 and older, Bruce Fleisher and Larry Nelson took the lead with a 62 at Buffalo Ridge. The teams of Jack Nicklaus-Gary Player, Lee Trevino-Mike Hill and Graham Marsh-John Bland shot 1-over 55 on the par-3 course, the site of the final rounds in each division. "We never seemed to get the right club in our hand," said Nicklaus, who designed the par-3 course. "All day long were struggling with a club, even on the second nine. ... We made two bogeys on the alternate shot because we didnt have the right clubs." Play was delayed twice because of rain and lightning and players were allowed to lift, clean and place their golf balls on the Buffalo Ridge course. Perry and Cochran birdied four of the first five holes and eagled the par-5 eighth -- Perry hit a hybrid to 6 feet -- in a 6-under 29 on the front nine. The Kentucky duo also birdied No. 10 and closed with three more. "Kenny came in there and really got things started," Cochran said. "He just had a terrific front side, especially, and really the whole day. ... He made many birdies and an eagle. Never really missed a shot. So as far as I was concerned, I was trying to fill in." Funk and Sluman played the first nine in 7-under 28 and added three birdies on the back nine. "We both played really honestly solid golf all day," Sluman said. "I think after 12 holes we each contributed like on six holes each, so we were just playing solid golf, hitting it down the middle and giving ourselves two birdie chances every hole." Sluman capped the round with a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th, their fifth birdie putt of 20 feet for longer. Sluman and Funk each holed 40- and 30-foot birdie putts. The teams of Jay Haas-Peter Jacobsen and Billy Andrade-Tommy Armour III shot 62 at Buffalo Ridge, and Tom Lehman-Bernhard Langer and Corey Pavin-Duffy Waldorf followed at 63. Jim Colbert and Jim Thorpe were second in the Legends Division at 66. Butch Baird-Al Geiberger and Hubert Green-Allen Doyle shot 67. Nick Foles Jersey . What that means for me is our offence has to be at our best.Just check out the numbers:The Broncos (6-1) lead the NFL with 32 points per game. The Patriots (6-2) are third with 29.8.Manning is the top-ranked quarterback, is tied for the league lead with 22 touchdown passes and has thrown just three interceptions. Brady is fifth in passer rating and has thrown for 18 touchdowns and two interceptions. Each is on a roll with 14 touchdown passes in his past four games. The atmosphere is going to be unbelievable, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said. Both defences face tough challenges, but have improved since last year. The Broncos additions of defensive end DeMarcus Ware, cornerback Aqib Talib and safety T.J. Ward have helped them become the fourth-ranked defence in the NFL and the best against the run.The Patriots signings of free-agent cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner strengthened the secondary and cut down on long pass completions that hurt last season.Manning vs. Brady may be on the marquee. But theres a lot more to the hit show. Its never just one guy, Denver coach John Fox said. This is a team game. There are a lot of moving parts to offence, defence and the kicking game. The Broncos are 32-7 in three years with Manning and reached the Super Bowl last season. The Patriots have won 10 straight AFC East titles, excluding 2008 when Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury in the opener.New Englands Bill Belichick calls Manning the best quarterback hes ever coached against.Fox mentioned other greats hes faced — Joe Montana, Dan Marino and John Elway. No two players (are) alike, Fox said, but I can tell you the two that will be playing this week are right up there. Some things to watch for in what could be a preview of the second straight AFC championship game between the teams:SACK ATTACK: Brrady will have to throw quickly against the pass-rushing duo of Von Miller and Ware.dddddddddddd Miller is tied for second in the NFL with nine sacks and Ware has seven. Miller has a six-game sack streak and is lighter and faster than last season when he missed six games for violating the NFLs substance abuse policy and one with a knee injury. Denver has 23 sacks in seven games after getting just 41 in 16 games last season.Theyre phenomenal players, Brady said. Those two guys are factors on every play.RECEIVING ADVANTAGE: The Patriots passing game has improved in their four games since a 41-14 loss at Kansas City. In last Sundays 51-23 rout of Chicago, Brandon LaFell had career-highs of 11 catches for 124 yards and Gronkowski caught nine passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Manning has more dangerous options with tight end Julius Thomas, tied for the NFL lead with nine touchdowns, and wide receivers Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker. Sanders had three touchdown receptions in the previous game, a 35-21 win over San Diego.HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE: Denver has lost its past four games in Foxborough since winning in 2006. They led there 24-0 at halftime last November, but the Patriots staged their biggest comeback in history and won 34-31 in overtime. Its Tom Brady, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said. He turns the game up to a whole other notch in New England. At home, Brady is 87-13 in regular-season starts and the Patriots have won their past 13 games, the longest current streak in the NFL.REPLACEMENT RUNNERS: Denvers Ronnie Hillman rushed for more than 100 yards in two of his past three games as a replacement for Montee Ball, out with a torn right groin.New Englands Stevan Ridley is out after suffering a season-ending knee injury. In his place, Jonas Gray, more of a straight-ahead runner than Hillman, rushed for 89 yards against the Bears in his second NFL game after spending this season on the Patriots practice squad.AFC TITLE GAME PREVIEW?: The Broncos beat the Patriots 26-16 last season in the AFC championship game in Denver. If theres a rematch, the result of Sundays game would help determine home-field advantage.I think both teams understand how big this game is, Sanders said, and thats the reason we want it.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
